Would you choose artificial flowers or dried flowers?

2025-09-30

What are the characteristics of dried and artificial flower arrangements?

Dried flower arrangements use natural plant materials that have been dehydrated and processed. They retain the natural beauty of the original plant and can be dyed at will. They are durable and easy to care for after arrangement. They are also suitable for use in dim lighting, regardless of lighting conditions. They are commonly used in hotel corridors, ground floors, dark lobbies, dimly lit restaurants, and corners on staircases. They are also often used for decoration in darker areas such as cafes and bars. Their main disadvantage is their sensitivity to humidity.

Artificial flower arrangements use artificially simulated plant materials such as polyurethane (PU), silk, polyester, crystal, and plastic. There are a wide variety of options, ranging from realistic to freely designed and colored. Although more expensive, they can be enjoyed for years once purchased and are easy to care for, requiring only prompt dusting. They are ideal for large stages and window displays, and are also commonly used at weddings and in home interiors.

The following are the respective characteristics of dried flowers, artificial flowers, and preserved flowers:

How to maintain dried flowers, artificial flowers and preserved flowers

Dried Flowers

Production Methods

Dried flowers are made by rapidly dehydrating fresh flowers using methods such as desiccant, natural air drying, and microwave drying.

Advantages

1. They retain their original color and shape for a long time.

2. The production process and raw materials are relatively simple and inexpensive.

Dried Flower Care and Precautions

1. Dried flowers should not be washed with water. Doing so will cause the vibrant colors of the flowers to deteriorate and discolor. Therefore, dried flowers should only be cleaned with a hair dryer on a low warm setting. It's best to take the flowers outside to dry them, as this will prevent them from staining other household items.

2. Dried flowers are dried after drying, dehydrating, bleaching, and dyeing. Generally, they don't require water, but vein-dried flowers can be treated with a small amount of water from a spray bottle—use a very small amount. This will make the veined flowers appear more vibrant. It's best to add a few drops of aromatherapy oil to the water to enhance the indoor atmosphere.

3. Dried flowers should be stored in a cool, dry place, but out of direct sunlight.

Artificial Flowers

Production Method

Artificial flowers are typically made from materials such as stretch silk, crepe paper, polyester, plastic, and crystal. They are generally referred to as artificial flowers in the industry. They use fresh flowers as a model and are imitated using materials such as cloth, gauze, silk, and plastic.

Advantages

Eco-friendly, less susceptible to environmental impact, only slightly different from fresh flowers, highly malleable, long-lasting, and easy to maintain.

Artificial Flower Care and Precautions

1. If the artificial flower is made entirely of soft plastic or has adhesive on the surface, rinse it directly with clean water.

2. If the artificial flowers have silk petals and leaves, soak them in concentrated salt water for 2 hours, then immerse them in clean water and gently shake them to remove dust while preserving their vibrant colors.

3. When drying, be especially careful to hang the artificial flowers upside down in a well-ventilated area to dry. Avoid direct sunlight, as this will cause them to fade and discolor. Keeping the flowers facing downward prevents deformatio

4. Avoid exposing artificial flowers to the sun for extended periods, as this will cause them to lose their vibrant colors and become dull.

5. Avoid exposing artificial flowers to water for extended periods, especially hot water, as this will cause them to fade.

6. If dust accumulates on the flowers due to prolonged storage, gently brush the petals and leaves with a soft brush dipped in water and place them in a cool, dark place to dry.

Preserved Flowers

Production Method

Preserved flowers are made from high-quality natural flowers using advanced technology, undergoing a complex process involving dehydration, bleaching, drying, and dyeing.

Advantages

Preserves the feel and texture of fresh flowers, visually and tactilely identical to real flowers. Can be displayed for approximately 3-5 years.

Preserved Flower Care and Precautions

1. Do not store near a heater for extended periods of time, as excessive drying can cause the petals to split.

2. Avoid high temperatures and humidity, direct sunlight to prevent discoloration, and avoid watering or touching with bare hands.

3. Avoid prolonged contact with clothing and textiles to prevent staining.

4. After a period of display, it is best to vacuum the flowers; using a hair dryer is also an effective method. Applying fragrance essence or scented oil to the flowers can also make the room fragrant.
